Amani Nature Reserve

The Amani Nature Reserve (ANR) was established in May 1997 and it cover an area of about 130000 hectors. It located between Longitude 38.5 – 39.50E and Latitude 4.5 – 500S , lies at an altitude of approximately 190 – 1130M above the sea level. Amani Nature Reserve (ANR) receive over 2000mm of rainfall per year. During the hot season (December – March) the average day temperature is 25 – 28oc and 22 – 26 at night and during the cool season (May – September) 18 – 22 in day time and 16 – 20 at night. Is located about 79 kilometer from Tanga town and only 42 kilometers from Muheza town.

Amani Nature Reserve is covered by tropical evergreen rainforest and paradise in nature with unique flora and fauna. The Amani Nature Reserve is suitable for site seeing, hiking, camping, trekking, picnics, boating fishing and reading. Amani Nature Reserve has the largest botanic garden in Africa which was started by German in 1902 including first tree nursery in Tanganyika. The Amani Botanical Garden occupies an area of 356 hectares with about 900 different planted trees, species both indigenous and exotics from the different parts of the world.

4 Days Itinerary - Amani Nature Reserve.

Day 1 – Arrive to Amani so it depend where are you from, if is from Tanga town it will take you 30min to Muheza and then another 42 Kilometers to Amani Nature Reserve. We’ll have a lunch and then go around for bird watch and overnight at NIMR Rest House.

Day 2- Eight hour tour visiting Amani tea farms, rainforest and butterfly farming and then overnight at NIMRI Rest House

Day 3 – View points (kiganga/Ngua / Mbomole hill) and then to Water falls (derema waterfall or Ndola Waterfall) - overnight at NIMR Rest House

Day 4 – Night tour to see the night’s animals and other living organisms

Amani Nature Reserve have many attraction features and activities to do therefore the program can be changed at any time depend the clients needs.
